You will soon start seeing a new update in Google Drive. Google is now adding NotebookLM’s most loved feature, the audio overview, to your Drive. After this update, you can listen to your PDF files instead of reading them. This feature will save you time and make reading easier for everyone.
What Is This New Audio Overview
When you open any PDF in Google Drive, you will see a new option called “Generate audio overview.” After you tap on it, Google’s AI will make a short audio version of that file. It will take only a few seconds and give you a 2 to 10-minute summary in voice form. You can save this audio in your Drive and listen anytime you want.

Where It Will Be Available in NotebookLM’s
For now, this feature will only work on the web version of Google Drive. Mobile users will get it later. It will also support only English-language PDFs in the beginning. To use it, you must have a Google Workspace account or a Gemini AI Pro or Ultra plan. Some advanced options from NotebookLM’s, like chatting with the AI host or syncing your progress, have not yet been added.
Why This Feature Is Helpful in NotebookLM’s
This new update will be very useful for students and office users who read many reports or study materials. You can listen to your documents while traveling, working, or doing any other task. Along with this, it will also reduce your screen time and help you understand things faster.
How You Can Use It
Once this feature comes to your NotebookLM’s account , open any PDF in Google Drive. Then click on “Generate audio overview.” After that, your file will turn into a small podcast-style audio summary. You can play it right away or download it for later. For now, keep checking your Drive — this update will start rolling out soon. Once it’s available, your PDFs will talk to you just like NotebookLM does.
