WhatsApp to Bring Cover Photos to All User Profiles Soon

WhatsApp to Bring Cover Photos to All User Profiles Soon: WhatsApp is gearing up to introduce a much-requested personalisation feature for its users — cover photos for profiles. Previously exclusive to WhatsApp Business accounts, this new addition will soon let every user upload a cover image to enhance their personal or professional identity on the platform.

A Move Toward More Expressive Profiles

As reported by WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned platform is testing a new design element that allows users to set a cover photo at the top of their profiles. This change mirrors the layout seen on popular social media platforms like Facebook and LinkedIn, where users can visually express their identity or mood through banners.

Once available, users will be able to add or change their cover photo through the Profile Settings section in the app. A preview shared by the feature tracker shows an intuitive interface, making it easy to select, adjust, and upload an image directly within WhatsApp.

This update aligns with Meta’s broader strategy of making WhatsApp more personal and interactive — evolving beyond a basic messaging app to a platform that represents users’ digital presence more vividly.

Enhanced Privacy Controls

With new customisation comes a continued focus on privacy. WhatsApp plans to roll out dedicated privacy settings for cover photos, ensuring users have complete control over visibility. According to reports, the feature will include three main privacy options:

  • Everyone: The cover photo will be visible to all WhatsApp users, even those outside your contacts.
  • My Contacts: Only contacts saved in your phone can view the image.
  • Nobody: Keeps your cover photo private and hidden from everyone.

These options mirror the app’s existing privacy framework for profile photos and status updates, offering consistency and reassurance for users concerned about visibility.

Currently in Beta Development

The new cover photo feature is currently being developed on WhatsApp beta version 2.25.32.2 for Android. While available through the Google Play Beta Programme, it has not yet appeared for most testers. This suggests that the feature is still in its early testing phase and might take a few more updates before it becomes widely accessible.

Given WhatsApp’s typical rollout strategy, users can expect a gradual release — starting with select beta users before expanding to all Android and iOS devices.

A Social Touch to WhatsApp Profiles

Once launched, this update will mark a major step in WhatsApp’s journey toward greater personalisation and social-style engagement. By allowing all users to showcase their interests, brand, or mood visually, the app could blur the line between instant messaging and social networking.

For individuals, it’s an opportunity to make their profiles more expressive; for professionals and small business owners, it adds a layer of visual identity that enhances credibility and personal branding.

In short, WhatsApp’s upcoming cover photo feature could redefine how users represent themselves on the platform — combining style, personality, and privacy in one seamless update.
