WhatsApp Testing New Storage Shortcut: Easily Manage Space Without Leaving Chats

Posted on October 26, 2025October 26, 2025 By Kumar Sumit No Comments on WhatsApp Testing New Storage Shortcut: Easily Manage Space Without Leaving Chats

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature for Android that will make managing device storage simpler and faster. According to reliable feature tracker WABetaInfo, the Meta-owned messaging platform is developing a quick-access shortcut that allows users to check and free up storage space directly from the chat window, eliminating the need to dig through multiple settings.

Easier Way to Monitor Storage

The new feature was spotted in the WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.25.31.13, which was recently rolled out to select users via the Google Play Beta Programme. While still in development, this upcoming shortcut aims to make it much more convenient to monitor data usage without leaving your conversations.

As seen in the shared screenshots, the new shortcut appears within the chat interface, letting users instantly access the storage management page. This is the same tool currently found under Settings > Storage and Data, but the shortcut promises faster, one-tap access.

What the Feature Will Let You Do

Once rolled out, users will be able to view a detailed overview of all media files shared across chats — including photos, videos, voice notes, and documents. These files are sorted by size, making it easy to identify which ones are taking up the most space.

From there, users can:

  • Delete unnecessary files directly from the shortcut.
  • Select multiple items at once using the bulk delete option for quicker cleanup.
  • Star or pin important media files so they don’t get removed accidentally.
  • Keep track of large attachments and manage them efficiently.

This new approach is designed to help users free up space more intuitively, especially for those dealing with full storage or low device memory.

Rolling Out Gradually

According to WABetaInfo, the feature is still under development and currently available to a limited number of beta testers. Like most WhatsApp beta updates, this one is expected to follow a phased rollout, meaning not all users will see it right away.

Once fully tested and refined, it’s expected to be introduced in a future stable release for all Android users.

Why It Matters

WhatsApp is one of the most-used apps in the world, often taking up significant phone storage because of the constant flow of media shared daily. Managing that data can be tedious, especially for users who are part of multiple active groups.

By placing a storage management shortcut right inside chat windows, WhatsApp is cutting down the extra steps needed to review and clear unwanted files. This move aligns with the company’s recent efforts to simplify app navigation and enhance user experience — such as redesigned settings menus, better search tools, and cleaner media previews.

Final Take

While WhatsApp hasn’t officially confirmed the public release timeline, the upcoming in-chat storage shortcut could be one of the most useful updates for everyday users — especially those struggling with limited phone storage.

For now, users enrolled in the WhatsApp Beta programme can keep an eye out for version 2.25.31.13, where this handy feature is first appearing. Others will likely get access in the coming weeks once testing is complete.

In short, soon you may no longer need to leave your chat to clean up your WhatsApp storage — a small but meaningful improvement that could save time and keep your phone running smoothly.
