SIM Binding Rule Starts Soon: Big Change Coming for WhatsApp Users in India

Posted on December 1, 2025December 1, 2025 By Kumar Sumit No Comments on SIM Binding Rule Starts Soon: Big Change Coming for WhatsApp Users in India

India is now bringing a new rule where your it will stay linked only to the SIM you used during registration. This means if you remove that SIM or switch it to another phone, your WhatsApp may stop working instantly. For now, the aim is to reduce fraud and stop misuse of accounts that are running on different devices without proper verification. Many users who switch phones or swap SIMs frequently may feel this change very clearly in day-to-day use.

Strict Login Limits for Linked Devices

Along with this, linked devices like WhatsApp Web will now auto-logout every few hours. You will have to scan the QR again to continue. This change is coming because the new rule wants all online messaging platforms to keep track of active devices more tightly. If you use WhatsApp on laptop or tablet for long work sessions, then you may need to re-login again and again. For now, this update will be pushed slowly, but you will start noticing it soon.

Why SIM Binding Is Being Enforced

The main reason for this rule is growing online fraud. Many scammers use one SIM to register and then run WhatsApp on another device, which makes tracking difficult. With SIM binding active, only the registered SIM holder can run that WhatsApp account. This reduces fake accounts, makes it harder for fraud groups to hide, and builds stronger identity verification. For normal users, it simply means extra safety but less flexibility in switching devices.

What Users Should Keep in Mind Now

If you often change SIMs, travel outside India, or keep WhatsApp running on multiple devices, then you should prepare for this change. After the new rule is fully active, removing your SIM may block the WhatsApp session. Also, your linked devices will not stay logged in for long. For now, apps are getting around 90 days to follow these rules, so the update will roll out in steps. Users should keep their primary SIM active to avoid trouble later.
