Battlefield Redsec: Electronic Arts (EA) has officially confirmed that the long-awaited Battle Royale mode for Battlefield 6 will be called Battlefield Redsec — short for Redacted Sector. The new mode is set to launch globally on October 28, coinciding with the start of Battlefield 6’s Season 1.
EA revealed that Battlefield Redsec will be completely free-to-play, marking the franchise’s first step into standalone Battle Royale territory. The announcement, made on Monday, also confirmed that the official gameplay trailer will premiere the same day at 8am PT (8:30pm IST), offering players their first in-depth look at the mode’s action-packed gameplay.

A Fresh Take on Battlefield’s Massive Warfare
According to EA, Redsec aims to deliver a true Battlefield experience on a grand scale — featuring up to 100 players fighting across a massive, destructible map filled with vehicles, dynamic environments, and intense close-quarter combat zones.
What sets Redsec apart is its “deadliest ring” — a brutal twist on the traditional shrinking zone mechanic seen in other Battle Royale games. In Redsec, players who touch the closing ring won’t just take damage over time; they’ll face instant elimination. This change is designed to increase tension and strategy in the final stages of each match.
EA says that Redsec’s world will feature rich environmental destruction and realistic combat physics, hallmarks of the Battlefield franchise, now adapted for the Battle Royale genre.
Gameplay Adjustments for the BR Experience
In preparation for the launch, EA has fine-tuned Battlefield 6’s core mechanics to better suit Battle Royale gameplay. A recent community update revealed that time-to-kill values have been rebalanced for closer combat encounters, and armour plates will now be part of the gameplay loop — a first for the franchise.
Additionally, vehicles have been reworked for balance, environmental bugs have been fixed, and players can expect a smoother overall experience in both Duos and Squads playlists.
The proximity chat feature will also make its debut in Redsec, allowing real-time in-game communication — an essential feature for coordination and immersion in large-scale battles.
Multiple Playlists and Game Modes
At launch, Battlefield Redsec will reportedly support two team formats: Duos (2 players) and Squads (4 players). Each playlist will offer its own tactical dynamics, letting players choose between stealthy coordination or full-on team warfare.
While EA hasn’t confirmed solo mode support at launch, it’s expected that future updates might introduce additional options, depending on community feedback.
Standalone Experience Across Platforms
Similar to Call of Duty: Warzone, Redsec is expected to arrive as a separate free-to-play app on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. This standalone approach allows EA to maintain regular content updates independent of the main Battlefield 6 game while inviting new players into the Battlefield universe without requiring the base game purchase.
Players can also look forward to cross-platform support, ensuring a larger player base and faster matchmaking times when the mode goes live.
Launching Alongside Battlefield 6 Season 1
The arrival of Redsec on October 28 will coincide with Battlefield 6’s Season 1 rollout, which introduces a brand-new multiplayer map, a 4v4 competitive mode, and several new weapons. Together, these updates signal a major post-launch expansion aimed at keeping the game fresh and competitive.
Record-Breaking Success for Battlefield 6
Battlefield 6 launched on October 10 and has already sold over seven million copies in just three days, making it the biggest launch in the franchise’s history, according to EA.
With Redsec now confirmed, Battlefield 6 is poised to expand its reach even further, blending the franchise’s signature large-scale warfare with the fast-paced, survival-driven thrill of the Battle Royale genre.
Get ready to drop in — Battlefield Redsec arrives October 28 with destruction, strategy, and chaos on a scale only Battlefield can deliver.
