MSI Claw A8 vs 8i+ — Same Screen, Totally Different Beasts Under the Hood

Posted on February 10, 2026February 10, 2026 By Kumar Sumit No Comments on MSI Claw A8 vs 8i+ — Same Screen, Totally Different Beasts Under the Hood

At first glance, the MSI Claw A8 and MSI Claw 8i+ look almost identical. Both handhelds feature the same 8-inch 120Hz display and premium portable design. But inside, they’re built for very different types of users. In a comparison highlighted by Tech Fowler, the real battle comes down to AMD’s raw gaming muscle versus Intel’s efficient versatility. If you’re choosing between these two, the decision isn’t just about specs — it’s about how you actually plan to use your device.

MSI Claw A8

Processor Platforms: AMD vs Intel

The biggest difference is the chip powering each system. The MSI Claw A8 runs on AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Extreme, a processor tuned for multi-core power and sustained gaming loads. It’s designed to push demanding titles and heavy applications without slowing down, making it attractive to serious gamers.

The MSI Claw 8i+ uses Intel’s Core Ultra platform instead. While not as focused on brute-force gaming, it excels in single-core efficiency and multitasking. That means smoother everyday use, quieter operation, and better balance between performance and battery life. For mixed workloads — gaming, browsing, streaming, and productivity — the 8i+ feels more flexible.

Memory: Capacity Matters

RAM is another key separator. The A8 includes 24GB of LPDDR5X8000 memory, which is more than enough for modern gaming and standard multitasking. The 8i+ steps things up with 32GB of faster LPDDR5X8533 RAM, giving it an edge for creative work, heavy multitasking, or streaming while gaming.

Power users who juggle multiple apps will appreciate the extra headroom on the Intel model. Pure gamers, however, won’t feel limited by the A8.

Storage and Upgrade Flexibility

Both handhelds ship with fast 1TB SSDs, ensuring quick load times and smooth performance. The A8 has an advantage when it comes to long-term upgrades thanks to its more common SSD format, making replacements or expansions easier down the road.

Display and Real-World Experience

The screen is identical on both: an 8-inch IPS touchscreen with 1920×1200 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. It’s sharp, smooth, and ideal for handheld gaming. The glossy finish looks great indoors but can reflect light in bright environments.

Gaming vs Efficiency

The A8 is tuned for high-performance gaming, especially at higher power settings. The 8i+ focuses on efficiency, quieter thermals, and slightly longer battery life. It’s the better pick for users who want a handheld that doubles as a portable PC.

Final Verdict

Choose the MSI Claw A8 if your top priority is gaming dominance and raw performance. Go with the MSI Claw 8i+ if you want better multitasking, efficiency, and versatility.

Same screen. Same size. Completely different personalities.
